Adatepe Village

Adatepe is a treasure hidden in a valley surrounded by olive groves on the southern slopes of the Kaz Mountains. This magical village, where Turks and Greeks lived together for centuries, still preserves its traditional identity today with its stone architecture, cool, shady streets, and two-story courtyard houses.

The village’s story opened a new chapter with the Population Exchange in 1924. While Greek neighbors migrated to Greece, Muslim Turks from Crete settled in these stone houses. But the village’s spirit has never changed the same stone structures, tiled roofs, and inner courtyards continue to carry the authentic feel to this day. Rooftops used for drying food in the summer months still bear traces of traditional life.

Adatepe was rediscovered in the 1980s by a group of people seeking to escape the chaos of big cities, and the village’s old stone houses were restored to their traditional architecture. With this transformation, the village has become a special place where local and new residents live in harmony, where culture and nature meet. The two-century-old plane tree in the village square, whose shade flows with life, symbolizes this harmony and the village’s spirit.

Added an urban protected area in 1989, Adatepe is the only village in the Kaz Mountains to have preserved its original identity. The ancient altar known as the “Altar of Zeus” in its vicinity gives the village a historical and mythological depth. From this hill, where Homer wrote that Zeus watched the Trojan War from, you too can gaze upon the villages of the Gulf of Edremit, the islands of Ayvalık, and the island of Lesbos in all its glory.

Today, Adatepe, with its stone houses, legends, and unique landscapes, is a timeless village that offers both traces of the past and the tranquility of nature.

And right in the heart of this unique village, Ida Blue offers its guests a special experience that combines the authentic spirit of Adatepe with modern comfort.
